Submit to Wide Bracket

Wide Bracket considers original analytical work on financial planning and household capital allocation. Work drawing on adjacent disciplines may be considered when a household or practitioner financial decision is the substance of the article rather than incidental context.

What we look for

We look for work that begins with a real question and adds something a serious reader can use: a distinction, framework, argument, calculation, interpretation, or application that goes beyond familiar guidance.

Strong submissions make their important assumptions visible, support material claims appropriately, and explain why the analysis changes or clarifies a real financial decision.

What to send

Please send a manuscript or substantial draft, a short author biography, links to relevant prior work if useful, a brief note explaining why the piece belongs in Wide Bracket, and any relevant disclosures.

Formal publication formatting is not required at the submission stage.

Submission channel

Send submissions to [email protected].

A complete submission is normally acknowledged within three business days.

Wide Bracket aims to provide an initial editorial decision within 30 calendar days. If substantially more time is required, we will send an update rather than leave the submission unanswered.

Originality

Wide Bracket publishes original versions of record.

A manuscript may be under consideration elsewhere during initial editorial review, provided the author promptly tells Wide Bracket if its status changes.

Once Wide Bracket and the author decide to proceed toward final publication, the work must no longer be simultaneously committed for first publication elsewhere.

Working papers, preprints, conference papers, and research manuscripts do not automatically disqualify a related submission. The test is whether the Wide Bracket article makes a distinct contribution for a different readership rather than simply reformatting or lightly rewriting the same argument. Prior versions must be disclosed.

Editorial decisions

An initial editorial decision may be a desk decline, decline, invitation to revise, invitation to submit a different piece, or acceptance subject to editing, disclosures, and a Publication Agreement.

An invitation to revise is not a commitment to publish.

An author may withdraw an unpublished manuscript at any point before publication. Where a genuine legal, regulatory, professional, or employer-compliance obstacle arises after a Publication Agreement has been executed, Wide Bracket may release the author before publication.

Fees and payment

Wide Bracket does not charge submission or publication fees.

Unless separately agreed in advance for commissioned work, outside contributions are currently unpaid.

Confidentiality and disclosures

Unpublished submissions are treated as non-public editorial material and are not published or publicly distributed without the author’s permission. This is an editorial practice, not a representation of legal privilege or professional confidentiality.

Authors should disclose employment, compensation, ownership or equity, sponsorship, referral or revenue-sharing arrangements, consulting or advisory relationships, and other material financial or professional interests that a reasonable reader would want to know when evaluating the article.

Material use of automated or computational tools that meaningfully affects substantive analysis, evidence, calculations, or authorship should also be disclosed where relevant. Ordinary spelling, grammar, formatting, and similar mechanical assistance need not ordinarily be disclosed.

Before publication

Before an outside article is published, the author must enter into a written Publication Agreement with Wide Bracket.

The agreement establishes the publication rights needed to maintain a permanent version of record, including its publication metadata, corrections, and publication history.
